There are counties that are influenced by the Sahara Desert, which is made of mostly rock, not sand. The Sahara Desert is as large as China. It is very hot with temperatures over 130 degrees. It is not all flat. The highest point in the desert is in a volcano at 11,200 feet. South of the Sahara is a grassland. Counties in this region have many conflicts.
