Australia is the only continent that is also a country.  It is over 2000 miles from east to west and over 2000 miles from north to south.  The country is divided into six states.  Most people live in New South Wales which contains Sydney, the largest city.  Queensland also has a lot of people. Most people live along the coast.  With the exception of Perth and Darwin, Western Australia, Southern Australia and the North Territory are mainly rural.   The area also contains the outback.   Tasmania is a separate Australian island.
